812 Cake and Dessert

I consider myself an agnostic when it comes to religion. I’ve got no idea if an afterlife exists, and quite frankly, I don’t really care. But if there is such a thing as heaven, I imagine that it’ll look something like this:

I think that I’ve just died and am looking at the gates of heaven right now…

So, in case you’re wondering what this picture is, it is the display case of 812 Cake & Dessert. They are a ute, small bakery/cafe located near the Gilmore skytrain station serving up some of the most gorgeous Asian-Western fusion cakes that I’ve ever seen. Seriously, instead of gold or jewels or virgins or whatever reward exists in heaven, I want an endless supply of beautiful, luscious, sensuous cakes. Now, as much as I wanted to get EVERYTHING, I realised that my wallet’s not really big enough. I ended up picking up picking a slice each of the Tiramisu and Double Chocolate.

Double Chocolate (top) and Tiramisu (bottom)

Tiramisu ($7.50):

“Mascarpone cream and espresso chantilly”
This was just fantastic. The layers of cake had a wonderful fragrance from being soaked in coffee liquor; the cream was luscious, mildly sweet with a nice bitterness from the coffee and cocoa powder. Even though the slice does look substantial, it is very light and melts in your mouth, and really disappears in no time at all.

Double Chocolate ($7.50):

“Layers of Milk chocolate and dark chocolate whipped ganache made from Valrhona‘s 40% Jivara and 70% Guanaja”
This was also wonderful. The layers of cakes were soft and moist while the chocolate mousse was soft and light with a perfect bittersweet flavour. Again, the cake was quite light and easy to eat.

The cakes at 812 has really blown me away. This is just a fantastic bakery. I guess it’s fortunate that the bakery’s located quite far from my house; otherwise I’d be extremely fat and broke from gorging myself on thier cakes. If you like sweets at all, do yourself a favour and TREAT YO SELF!
