While I do try my best to keep an open mind and not judge food that I haven’t tried (hey I’m Asian and we literally eat everything that moves), I do admit that I’ve got my reservations when it comes to vegetarian/vegan foods. I’m a meatatarian, and I just cannot imagine anything tasting good without the addition of a delicious, succulent slab of meat. But I’ve vowed for this year to be more adventurous when it comes to eating and try exploring more types of cuisines. Wanting to dip my toes into vegetarian cuisine, I decided to visit Bandidas Taqueria today, a popular restaurant that has a vegetarian/Mexican menu. The place is definitely hipster and casual, and quite loud. I got their Morgan Taylor Breakfast Burrito, and had it baked with cheese for an extra $2.75 charge.
Morgan Taylor Breakfast Burriot ($10.75 + $2.75 for baked with ranchero sauce and cheese):
3.5/5
The burrito consisted of a whole wheat tortilla wrap filled with scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese and sour cream, and came with a small side of tomato salsa. Although not enormous (at least not to a pig like me), it was definitely quite large, and was stuffed with a really generous amount of filling. The potatoes were well-seasoned, bordering on salty – I have a pretty high tolerance so I was okay, but I think that it might be too salty for some others. The eggs on the other hand were a bit too bland. I personally did not like the wrap that much; being whole wheat it suffered from a rather mealy texture. In spite of all the flaws, the burrito was still overall quite tasty and, in spite of being a self-proclaimed meatatarian, I actually didn’t miss the meat here.

In spite of my aversion towards vegetables, I’ve got to admit that I actually quite enjoyed my meal at Bandidas Taqueria. The restaurant certainly has not convinced me to give up eating meat any time soon, but it has inspired me to keep an open mind and explore this type of cuisine more. This is definitely a good option for all the vegetarians out there, and also a good place for non-vegetarians too.
