Aussie Pie Guy is a food truck specializing mainly in savoury pies. They do also offer frozen versions of their pies to be baked and enjoyed at home. I’ve ordered their variety pack, consisting of 4 flavours (Aussie Pie, The Trifecta, Chook Pie, Shane’s Pie) for $26.99 through Spud. I’ve already sampled and reviewed their Aussie Pie and Shane’s Pie in my previous post, and will complete my review now today with their remaining 2 pies, the Chook Pie and the Trifecta.
“Don’t be a goose, have a chook pie. Local, free run chicken and mushrooms in a creamy white wine sauce. “
At first glance the filling looked pretty pale and bland, and hence I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was actually very flavourful: creamy and savoury with large chunks of tender chicken. The crust was unfortunately still doughy and a little tough, but perhaps because I was prepared for it this time around, I wasn’t as bothered by it as I was yesterday. Although I rated this the same as Shane’s pie, I actually prefer this a touch more than the latter.
“Indulge! Free range, B.C minced beef with chunks of BC double smoked bacon and layers of vintage cheddar all in a rich gravy. “
I’ve apparently saved the best for last. Unlike the Chook Pie, I could tell from the moment the cheese oozed out that this was going to be flavorful. And indeed it was. The ground beef was nicely seasoned and had a slightly tangy tomato flavour. Due to the drier filing, the crust was less soggy and considerably more enjoyable. I would have liked there to be a little more cheese. This is easily my favourite of the four.
Having now sampled everything from the variety pack, I will say that while I wasn’t blown away by anything, I did still enjoy the offerings from Aussie Pie Guy. I would recommend any pie lovers to give them a try, especially their Triefecta.
